-Leinster Camogie Semi-Final-
Na Fianna 1-09
St. Rynaghs (Offaly) 2-10
Na Fianna got off to a good start with an early free pointed by Erin Leddy which was followed by a St. Rynaghs point shortly after. Na Fianna retaliated when Máire Kirby scored a point from an awkward range.
The game was very fast paced on both sides. After some great goal keeping by Katie Mulvihill blocking down and saving what could have been a forceful hand pass goal, St.Rynaghs unfortunately broke through the Na Fianna defence minutes later and after scuffles near the square, the ball was in the back of the Na Fianna net making the scoreline 1-02 to 0-02.
The ball was impressively worked back up the field by Na Fianna but resulted in 2 consecutive fouls by St.Rynaghs which led Erin Leddy again to point 2 impressive frees.
The 1st half continued with St.Rynaghs adding an additional goal and 2 point to a Na Fianna point leaving the half time score:
Na Fianna 0-05
St. Rynaghs 2-04
The 2nd half started off with Na Fianna adding firstly again to the scoreboard with well worked play resulting in a goal by Sophie Healy. St.Rynaghs followed minutes later with a point from play.
Na Fianna really upped the tempo in the 2nd half and with great work from the Na Fianna backs, kept St.Rynaghs at bay as much as possible through the half with disallowing them to score for the best part of 20minutes. But as Na Fianna added more to the score board, St.Rynaghs began to also with nearly a point for point situation. A bad tackle on Sophie Healy seen the introduction of Eimear Clarke into the half forward line. Na Fianna fought on tooth and nail to keep a level scoreline and with a great pass from Emma Regan to Leah Devine seen her first of 2 points on the board.
Unfortunately, in the last few minutes of the game St.Rynaghs broke through and added 3 points from play to the board followed by a pointed free.
It was a well fought game that could have gone to either team, and for Na Fianna not only to be the first Meath Club to have played in this Intermediate division but to reach the Semi-Final of a Leinster Championship with a close margin defeat was something mighty in itself for their first year winning the Meath Senior Camogie Championship.
The team and management should be nothing but proud of themselves.
