    Junior A Championship Rd 3

    20th July

    Na Fianna v Wolfe Tones

Na Fianna made their 3rd outing in the Junior championship playing Wolfe Tones in Trim. Na Fianna started with the first point from Shane Barrett in the 4th min. Both Teams had a number of wides. Na Fianna needed to use their 1st sub in the 7th minute when Evan Henrick pulled out with an injury. Shortly thereafter Connor Heffernan stopped on target shot from Wolfe Tones by punching the ball out over the line.

Wolfe tones where quick of the mark and dropped the resulting 45 short and then passed it into the danger area where a Tones player punched it into the net. They followed that up with 2 points giving them a 4 point lead by the 13th minute. Na Fianna had few chances as the Tones defence was very strong and the few opportunities where just wide. The Na Fianna defense had plenty of hard work to do as Tones advanced and did turnover several attacks and with the goalie called to stop another shot on goal. Wolfe Tones did manage another point by the 19th minute.

Things started to pick up for Na Fianna when in the final minutes of the half Ben Caudwell worked some fine interplay with Jarleth Ennis to give Na Fianna their second score of the match.

Ciaran Keogh stopped the next attack from Tones but when the Tones defence stopped the Na Fianna attack they went on to score another point for Tones down the field giving them a 1-5 to 2 point lead. Na Fianna did not give up and in the 28th minute some fine movement of the ball amongst the Na Fianna forwards and gave Na Fianna a goal.

Wolfe Tones finished the half with one more point. Na Fianna where happy to finish the half with a 4 point deficit. Half time score was 1-02 Na Fianna to 1-06 Wolfe Tones.

The Second half started with a chance from Ciaran McDonnell just dropping short and was then gathered by Tones who went down the other end to score the first point of the half. Shane Barrett provided Na Fianna with their first point of the half but things got even bleaker when Wolfe Tones replied with a goal.

Na Fianna still worked hard and with fine points from Jarleth Ennis and Ben Cauldwell. The score was now 1-05 to Na Fianna and Wolfe Tones 2-08.

The final 15 minutes of the game was all Wolfe Tones as they increased their score by 4 goals 5 points to Na Fianna 1 point.
