Minor FL: Na Fianna 1-09, Gaeil Colmcille 2-12

Minor Football Summer League: Encouraging Display by Na Fianna

    Na Fianna: 1-09

    Gaeil Colmcille: 2-12

Na Fianna travelled to Grangegodden for this second round Summer league clash with Gaeil Colmcille and showed huge improvements from last week’s loss to Bective/Dunsany.

Na Fianna kicked far too many wides and balls into the keeper’s hands in the first half which led to them only scoring 0-2 with both points coming from Rory Fagan, as opposed to the home side who hit 1-06. Val Griffin excelled in goals for Na Fianna making some wonderful saves and being very steady under the high ball to keep his side in the game.

Na Fianna wree very impressive in the second half, as they took the game to the hosts. Meath U16’s Oisin Bright and Sean McDonnell led the charge, ably supported by Jake McCreddan and Sean Doherty as Na Fianna battled valiantly to get something from the game. They were hit by a counter attack goal by the Kells side but it did not deter Na Fianna who kept up the chase, with Thomas Cullen and Senan Fagan solid in defence..

Stephen Maher, Gavin Halton and Jake McCreddan hit a point each while Sean Donnell hit four points. Oisin Bright buried a goal in the last minute, with assistance from James Boggan to help his side finish on a high ahead of their trip to Ballinough next week for their round three game.

    Na Fianna:

Val Griffin, Senan Fagan, Kevin Korzeniewski, Thomas Cullen, Cillian Forde, Oisin Bright (1-0), Sean Doherty, Gavin Halton (0-1), Jake McCreddan (0-1), James Boggan, Stephen Maher (0-1), Sean McDonnell (0-4, 2f), Mark Murphy, Rory Fagan (0-2), Ben Stewart.
