JFC Rd 2 Na Fianna V Skyrne

On A fine sunny day the Na Fianna Junior squad made their second outing of the
championship and having lost the first round they were in need of a victory. The first 10
minutes saw Skyrne put up 2 points and while Na Fianna had two goal chances stopped by
    Skyrne and a wide.

It was the 13th minute before Na Fianna got their first point courtesy of a long distance shot
by Kevin Coffey , this was followed immediately by another point from Glen Mc Donald leaving the game level. Skyrne went on the attack again and having been guilty of a number of wides they finally were rewarded when they scored a point to regain the lead. Na Fianna drew level when after a surging run up the wing with the ball Jarleth Ennis delivered a fine pass to Paul Kennedy who pointed.

While Skyrne seemed to have more of the attacking chances in the next 10 minutes the
interceptions and persistent defending by the Na Fianna backs pressuried Skyrne into
another sequence of wides. Na Fianna had several chances also thwarted but in the 24th
minute Dean Barrett spotted Sean Coffey clear on goals and passed him the ball where he
continued the run and finished the ball into the net. This was immediately followed by a
    Dean Barrett point.

The final minute of the half saw Skyrne score another point to leave Na Fianna ahead by 3 at half time.

Half time score Na Fianna 1 Goal 4 Points to Skyrne 4 Points.

The second half started with both teams working hard to prevent scores and launching attacks and it was from a free for a foul on Damien Downey that gave Na Fianna the first scoring opportunity of the second half. Damien Downey had no problem pointing the free .

The next 10 minutes remained scoreless but with plenty of action including the post being hit and goal chances being saved and some fine committed defence by both teams. But again it was Na Fianna Paul Kennedy who scored the next point in the 14th minute.

The Skyrne attack will surely regret the missed chances in the 2nd half as it was the 22nd
minute of the half before they registered a point.

Skyrne piled on the pressure but, the Na Fianna defence were disciplined and kept Skryne scoring opportunities to a minimum. Na Fianna's Paul Kennedy delivered ball out of the defence to Jarleth Ennis who started a charging interplay move with Sean Coffey, which resulted in Sean added a point to his tally and Na Fianna's last point. Na Fianna where now holding a 5 point lead.

But Skyrne to their credit didn’t give up and they scored the final three points of the game in the time that was added by the Referee. However, the gap was too great and the time too short to catch Na Fianna who were delighted to recored their first victory of the Championship.

    Final score was
