    Na Fianna v Wolfe Tones

     

    Na Fianna hosted Wolfe Tones in Enfield on a beautiful spring morning and it was the home team that started brightly when Luke Kelly cooly finishing to the net for the opening score of the game after a good interchange of passes created the opportunity.

     

    Wolfe Tones settled quickly and scored a point from a free in their first attack. Another Wolfe Tone point quickly followed from another free. Shane Walsh pointed from play and Jack McNally restored the home teams three point lead when he drove home a free after ten minutes of play. Na Fianna extended their lead by a further three points when Owen McDonnell finished off a quick counter attack to drive beyond the goal keepers reach. Wolfe Tones reduced the deficit in the 16th minute; and they followed up with another point a minute later. The game was being played at a frantic pace and Na Fianna scored back to back points through Seán Martin and Shane Walsh in the 18th and 20th minute.

     

    Wolfe Tones did reduce the deficit with a point in the 24th minute however Jamie Queeney cancelled this score when he drove a long range effort over the bar within a minute. Conor Downey was next to get on the scoresheet when he pointed.

    Wolfe Tones found the Na Fianna net from close in when Padraig Ó Dionáin forced a rebound over the line.

    Wolfe Tones scored a goal within a minute of the restart to level the game. Na Fianna were quick to respond when Shane Walsh pointed from a free. A second free and two points from play extended the home side advantage to four points by the 15th minute of the second half. Both Harry Silke and Mark Slevin were introduced as second half substitutions. Wolfe Tones got their first point of the second half after nineteen minutes and followed with a second point from play two minutes later. The Na Fianna response was quick as Shane Walsh measured two frees to perfection in the 22nd and 23rd minutes. Conor Downey delivered the final score of the game in the 31st minutes collecting a pass from a free.

     

    The game was played in a sporting manner and credit goes to both sides for their level of performance.
