AFL Div 1; Na Fianna 1-13 Ratoath 0-9

AFL Div 1: Vital Win for Na Fianna

    Na Fianna: 1-13

    Ratoath: 0-8

Na Fianna sprung a surprise on Ratoath on Monday night in Enfield with a convincing win over a strong Ratoath outfit, which gives a boost to their survival prospects.

Na Fianna took the game to the visitors from the start, and showed great energy all round considering a number of players had played in the IHC win over Wolfe Tones just 24 hours previously.

The first half proved a close affair, with the difference coming with a well taken Barry Clancy goal which gave the hosts a 1-06 to 0-6 half time lead.

Na Fianna dominated the second half, restricting Ratoath to just two points, which counter attacking with great pace. Owen McDonnell and Michael Collins burst forward for two good points while Shane Walsh proved a handful in the forwards.

Shane Geraghty once again outlined his importance with a string of top class saves as Na Fianna made Ratoath rue a number of wides to seal the win.

Peter Slevin, who enjoyed a fine outing in the IHC win a day earlier, again played well as he kept tabs on Meath’s Brian McMahon while Oran Smullen, Owen McDonnell, Conor Downey and Shane Walsh were also outstanding.

    Na Fianna:

Shane Geraghty, John Baldwin, Evan Mullally, Peter Slevin, Oran Smullen (0-2), Anthony Neary, Dean Henrick, Michael Collins (0-1), Owen McDonnell (0-2), Andy Glynn (0-1), Conor Downey (0-4), Sean Rafferty, Barry Clancy (1-01), Shane Walsh (0-1), Barry Slevin (0-1).
