SFC: Na Fianna Well beaten by O Mahonys

    SFC: Na Fianna No Match for O’ Mahony’s

    Na Fianna: 1-07

    O’ Mahony’s: 4-14

    Na Fianna were comprehensively beaten by O’ Mahony’s in Trim on Sunday in a very disappointing display.

    Na Fianna struggled throughout the game with poor shooting and defending a feature. They conceded two first half goals as the Navan side cruised to a 2-06 to 0-4 half time lead.

    A goal immediately after the restart for O Mahony’s killed off the contest although Sean Martin continued to take the fight to O Mahony’s. Martin netted a well-placed goal after storming through the defence while Shane Geraghty made some wonderful saves for Na Fianna in goals, including a point blank save from a powerful Stephen Bray effort.

    A couple of late O’ Mahony’s goals piled further misery on Na Fianna who had James Geagan dismissed for two yellow cards towards the end.

    Na Fianna had a few good performers: Sean Martin was their best player on view, with experienced goalie Shane Geraghty exceptional in the second half, while Anthony Neary, Michael Collins, Conor Downey and Ethan Devine gave good accounts.

    Na Fianna face another difficult assignment next in Round 2 against Gaeil Colmcille, who themselves inflicted a heavy defeat on Summerhill after this game.

    Na Fianna;

    Shane Geraghty, James Geagan, Evan Mullally, Daniel Devine, Sean Rafferty, Anthony Neary, Oran Smullen, Owen McDonnell, Michael Collins (0-1), Conor Downey (0-1), Ethan Devine, Sean Martin (1-03), Christopher Cosgrave, Daniel Queeney (0-1), Lee Hyland.

    Subs: Dean Barrett (0-1) for Smullen, Peter Slevin for Hyland, Damien Downey for Cosgrave, John Baldwin for Rafferty.
