Na Fianna Intermediate Hurlers through to semi-final.

Na Fianna advanced to the last four of the intermediate hurling championship following this convincing win over Gaeil Colmcille in their quarter final played in Trim on Saturday afternoon on a final score line of 2-22-to 2-9.

It was the Kells team that began well opening with 2 early frees. Barry Slevin then got his team’s first score when pointing a free from over 70 yards to settle his team as they had recorded 2 earlier wides at this stage. Gaeil Colmcille got the opening goal and then a further point had them with a deserving lead of 1-3 to 0-1 after 10 minutes. Jonathan McCloskey pointed and following a Diarmuid Bailey run through the heart of the Gaeil Colmcille defence he passed to Mark Slevin who finished to the net. Gaeil Colmcille then responded again with their 2nd goal of the game to stretch their lead back to 4 points.

Barry Slevin then pointed after a foul on Cian Slattery before Gaeil Colmcille then pointed a free of their own. Na Fianna responded with the next 3 points by Diarmuid Bailey, Barry Slevin (free) and a fine effort by Ethan Devine following a cross field side-line pass by Barry Slevin after 20 minutes.

Gaeil Colmcille pointed a 65 but it was Na Fianna who finished the first half the better registering the last 4 points by Ethan Devine, Jonathan McCloskey, Mark & Barry Slevin as they held a two point lead of 1-10 to 2-5 at the break.

Barry Slevin pointed early in the second half and Gaeil Colmcille responded with a point of their own. Na Fianna then began to dominate and scored 1-3 without reply to put themselves in a commanding position. Substitute Sean Martin pointed, Barry Slevin with a 65 before Na Fianna’s second goal by Cian Slattery following another run through the Gaeil Colmcille defence by Diarmuid Bailey. Ethan Devine then pointed as they pushed their lead now out to 8 points.

A fine save by Na Fianna captain Eoin Reilly maintained this advantage before Gaeil Colmcille pointed a free. However a further 4 points by Sean Martin (2), Mark and Barry Slevin stretched this lead out to 11 points with ten minutes remaining. 2 Gaeil Colmcille points reduced this to 9 but it was Na Fianna who registered the last 4 points with Barry Slevin accounting for three of these and substitute Will Flynn the other.
