Thank you from Furancungu, Mozambique & Fr. Derek

Fr. Derek Ryan from Baconstown, Co. Meath, is a Redemptorist Missonary Priest in a small village Furancungu in Mozambique which is a third world country. Currently Fr. Ryan is overseeing the building of a church and school for the parish of Furancungu. The local priests also supply food for babies fostered out to families. There is a high prevalence of Malaria in the region. The United Nations continue to supply the drug ‘Coartane’ to the African Continent to help with the fight against Malaria. Sometimes people from First World Countries take for granted the small luxuries in life. For the Parish team Furancungu, their luxury is having a set of jerseys for the soccer team they play with. Furancungu have won two out of two of their games and for their third game they will wear an old set of Na Fianna CLG’s jerseys which were donated.

Na Fianna CLG and all the members wish Fr. Derek Ryan, a former Na Fianna player and the Furancungu team the very best luck in their future games.

Fr. Derek has asked that a special thanks is sent out to all who pulled together to locate old jerseys, their kindness is very much appreciated.

The video below is of some Furancungu players thanking Na Fianna CLG for the jerseys.
