IHC, Rd 1> Na Fianna 5-17, Kilmessan 1-07

    Great First Round Championship Win for Na Fianna Intermediate Hurlers.

    Na Fianna opened their Intermediate Hurling campaign with a convincing win over Kilmessan at Longwood on Wednesday evening.

    Na Fianna led by 7 points at the break 1-8 to 0-4 and in the end ran out with a commanding 22 point victory on a final score line of 5-17 to 1-7. Barry Slevin accounted for 2-11 of the winners tally and gave a fine display from play and frees including a sideline cut. It was Slevin who got Na Fianna's opening 2 points before Kilmessan got off the mark with a pointed free. Kilmessan were to add a further 3 frees during the first half with Na Fianna's remaining points coming from Slevin (3), Diarmuid Bailey (2) and Mark Slevin. David Kirby got the opening goal of the game collecting a long delivery from Barry Slevin and expertly finishing.

    Na Fianna continued their dominance throughout the second half, Barry Slevin goaled within seconds of the game resuming. Again Barry Slevin pointed again before Kilmessan hit 1-2. From then on it was all one way traffic with the winners hitting 3-8 to their opponents solitary point. Barry Slevin with a further 1-5, his brother Mark with a goal, the impressive Diarmuid Bailey with 2 points while the last two scores of the game saw corner back Daniel Glesson raising their 5th green flag of the night before wing back Ronan Byrne got the winners last point of the game.

    It was an impressive opening display from Pat O'Halloran charges as they bid to return to senior status. Round 2 sees them come up against Wolfe Tones.
